Letters to the Editor
The British Royal Society’s proposal to teach creationism in science classes is rational (September 18). One should acquaint oneself with the falsification theory of Carl Popper to understand the rationality of such decisions. According to Neo-Evolution, life arose from the non-living. Further, modern physical science exhorts us to believe that the whole matter along with time and space arose some 1,350 crores years ago through a big-bang! Then a layman’s question will be, where all this matter was kept before the big-bang? According to Stephen Hawking, it need not be kept anywhere because even now the net energy of the universe is zero. The total energy of the universe is the sum total of the positive atomic energy and an equal negative gravitational energy. R. Gopimony, Thiruvananthapuram The crusade against Darwinism is no longer the sole preserve of the fundamentalist; for, many influential religious conservatives have now joined the fray. Over a hundred years after Darwin’s death, efforts to crucify him continue unabated. The main complaint of religious conservatives is that the theory of evolution is allied with naturalism, and this is inconsistent with their theistic faith. Ahmed Kabeer, Dubai
