Assurance to captain’s family

Staff Correspondent

DEHRA DUN: The District Magistrate, Rakesh Kumar, visited the family of P.K. Goyal, captain of the merchant tanker hijacked by Somali pirates, and assured them of all possible efforts by the Uttarakhand Government to secure a safe release of all crew members.

Talking to newspersons later on Thursday, Mr. Kumar said contact had been established with the shipping company as well as the Government of India. “All crew members are safe and Chief Minister B.C. Khanduri has urged the Centre to take all possible steps for the safety and release of the crew,” he said.

The panic-stricken family of Mr. Goyal said they were praying to God for safe release of the crew. His children appealed to the hijackers not to harm anyone and release them at the earliest.
