CoD probe ordered

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The Cabinet on Thursday ordered a probe by the Corps of Detectives (CoD) into the attacks on Christian institutions and churches in the State allegedly by Hindutva organisations.

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who chaired a Cabinet meeting, told presspersons that the decision had been taken to ensure an impartial inquiry, and to arrest the guilty. “We expect the CoD inquiry to be completed in about two months,” he said.

Rejecting the demand made by the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) for probe by a High Court judge, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that the State police were competent enough to conduct the inquiry.

The Chief Minister said that the police had been directed to provide round-the-clock patrolling in the cities gripped by tension.
