“Make up for shortfall in welfare scheme targets”

Bankers have disbursed credit to the tune of just Rs. 160 crore


Total deposits in the district stood at Rs. 1,527 crore and advance at Rs. 2,053 crore

Rs. 78 lakh granted as loans for economic activity to 16 self help groups


KARUR: Bankers should make up any shortfall in targets under various lending, benefit or welfare schemes that involved disbursal of credit, Collector T.N. Venkatesh, told at the District Level Review Committee meeting of bank officials here on Thursday.

The District Collector told the bankers that against the first quarter target of Rs. 214 crore, bankers have disbursed credit to the tune of just Rs. 160 crore with 75 per cent under the priority sector advances. The performance under agriculture was 85 per cent only and that of service and business 64 per cent. However Mr. Venkatesh had a word of praise for the bankers for exceeding the priority sector lending norms and urged them to improve the credit flow under the DRI advances.

The total deposits in the district stood at Rs. 1,527 crore and that of advance at Rs. 2,053 crore with an overall business of Rs. 3,580 crore.

Lead District Officer, Reserve Bank of India, S. Velusami reviewed the progress under various parameters and pointed out that except under the DRI advance all other norms have been exceeded.

As regards progress under the government sponsored credit programmes, in the SGSY section 16 self help groups have been granted loans for economic activity to the tune of Rs. 78 lakh and under revolving fund another 528 SHGs have been sanctioned Rs. 3.54 crore.

Under the SJSRY, a total subsidy of Rs. 4.36 lakh has been allotted to four municipalities in the district for both individual and group loans. The selection of beneficiaries was under way. Under the TAHDCO schemes, 130 individual loans and 100 group loans were under consideration. Up to August end, a total of 1,535 SHGs have been financed with Rs. 1.29 crore through various schemes in the district. Chief Regional Manager, Indian Overseas Bank, Erode, S.H. Kesava urged the bankers to bring the notified crops under the crop insurance scheme and forward relevant reports expeditiously. Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency, Namagiri, Project Officer, Mahalir Thittam, Ayyaru, Lead District Manager K. Chandrasekaran, District Development Officer, NABARD, R. Sankaranarayanan, spoke.
