Was Tauqeer involved in city’s twin blasts?

Staff Reporter

Many similarities between sketches of the twin blasts’ suspect and Tauqeer

HYDERABAD: On finding many similarities between the sketches of the Hyderabad twin blasts’ suspect and Abdul Subhan Qureshi alias Tauqeer - alleged mastermind behind the recent Delhi serial blasts – the city police have begun investigating into his possible connection with the city’s terrorist modules.

Visuals of Tauqeer sitting next to SIMI’s top leader, Safdar Nagori, who was already arrested, were aired by an English television news channel on Thursday night.

As the photos and visuals of Tauqeer shown by the channel had close resemblance to the portrait of the suspect in the Hyderabad twin blasts, doubts were raised if he was directly connected to the Hyderabad terror strikes.

Matching description

The suspect’s portrait was released based on the descriptive particulars given by eyewitnesses at Lumbini Park, one of the two blast sites.

They said that the suspect was lean and over 5.5 feet tall. These and other features of the suspect described by eyewitnesses matched with that of Tauqeer.

Visited city

Moreover, earlier investigation revealed that Tauqeer came to Hyderabad a couple of times along with Safdar Nagori and met activists and sympathisers of SIMI.

From making of the bombs to explosive material used to mode of detonation, there were many similarities between the serial explosions at Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Delhi and Hyderabad twin blasts.

As Tauqeer’s role was suspected in all the three serial blasts, the needle of suspicion in the twin blasts case has also swung towards him.
