SANGAREDDY: Is the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao planning to contest the next elections Lok Sabha elections from Medak? Though elections are still a long way, rumours doing the rounds indicate that the TRS presindet has made up his mind after receiving a serious drubbing in the by-elections held in May this year. Appeal to peopleThe tone and tenor of Mr. Rao in his address recently at Rangadhampally after inaugurating the Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial and his repeated appeals to people to support the cause like they had done in the past, is being shown as an indication in this direction. Mr. Rao, who won the by-election held to the Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat in 2006 with a landslide majority of more than 2 lakh votes, was able to just get through with a majority of only 15,000 votes. This has forced the TRS leadership to realise the ground realities. Party’s lossEven while the party lost nine out of the 16 Assembly seats it had in the Assembly before the bypolls, party legislator T. Harish Rao was able to get about 60,000 votes majority in Siddipet Assembly segment. Similarly, Dommata legislator S. Ramalinga Reddy was able to retain his seat though with a little above 2,000 majority. The party was very much comfortable in these two out of the seven constituencies in the Lok Sabha segment and is hoping that it would muster huge majority in these two seats. Though Sangareddy was also won by the TRS in 2004 elections, rebel legislator T. Jayaprakash Reddy represents the district headquarters. Telangana sentimentMr. Chandrasekhar Rao being the candidate, the party hope to raise separate Telangana passion to the peak in other constituencies like Sangareddy and Medak to benefit politically. However, at Gajwel, represented by Major Industries Minister J. Geeta Reddy and at Narasapur represented by Sunita Lakshma Reddy, the situation may not be in TRS favour, as of now. Similarly, the newly formed Patancheru Assembly constituency may also not be advantageous for the TRS as it has representation from people across the State. “It is too early to predict from where Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao will contest in the elections. However, there is fair possibility for this,” commented a TRS leader.
