To recommend action against previous DPO Kakinada: Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi on Friday inspected the District Panchayat Office (DPO) and took a serious note of the “laxity” in functioning of some officers and employees. He told mediapersons that he was recommending action against previous District Panchayat Officer Subramanyam for his “failure to take prompt action against those responsible for misuse of funds and other forms of irregularities in some villages during his tenure.” NoticesShow-cause notices were being issued to divisional panchayat officers of Amalapuram and Peddapuram on the same grounds as above. A senior assistant cadre officer Balamani, who is working as superintendent, would be transferred due to complaints of dereliction of duty. Similarly, other staff who had been neglecting their duties and those working in the DPO for more than three years would be moved out. Besides, the Collector had taken 20 files for a thorough examination to take follow-up action against negligent officers and staff in a couple of days. One of the files pertains to the use of funds sanctioned by the 12th Finance Commission for local bodies. He ordered DPO Md. Ismail to come up with proposals as to who should be posted in place of those facing transfer. Mr. Dwivedi said he was also inquiring about the division-level panchayat offices, which were directly answerable for the functioning of the village panchayats. The Collector stated that he would regularly monitor things and try to set them in order.
