SHG member creates a flutter at YSR’s meeting
Staff Reporter
LAKKARAM (KARIMNAGAR DT): Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy had to face some embarrassing moments when a women self-help group member complained that the benefits of several welfare schemes launched by his government were not reaching the poor.
When the Chief Minister was addressing a mammoth gathering after unveiling the pylon to mark the laying of foundation stone for the Sripada Yellampalli project lift irrigation scheme in Lakkaram village of Manthani Mutharam mandal on Friday, a women SHG member from Rompikunta village interrupted the Chief Minister’s speech by complaining that they were not getting the benefits of the government.
Immediately, the Chief Minister summoned the women on to the dais. “You are doing several good programmes for the uplift of the poor. But, they are not reaching them and middlemen were benefitting ”. She also alleged that the banks were not extending loans under the pavalavaddi scheme to the SHGs in the region and they were finding it difficult to get employment under NREGS. The Chief Minister instructed Collector Sandeep Kumar Sultania to provide 100 days employment under NREGS to the woman in her village.
