WHO not getting adverse drug reaction report

Y.Mallikarjun

HYDERABAD: A representative of the Sweden-based WHO Collaborating Centre for International Drug Monitoring has expressed concern that the ‘pharmacovigilance’ network established in India was “not active” and said the global body was not receiving adverse drug reaction reports from the country.

External Affairs Pharmacist of the Uppsala Monitoring Centre, Anna Celen, said the network established by the Drug Controller-General of India was hampered by lack of funding and leadership. She said the Centre analyses global data base on adverse drug reactions and communicates to the concerned national drug authority in case of any problem.
