Letters to the Editor
This refers to M.K. Bhadrakumar’s article “UPA should not be myopic to world events” (September 19). Over the years, Indian policies seem to have been inexorably linked to the United States’ scheme of things. In a bid to win some deals and concessions, more advantageous to the U.S. though, we have overlooked — and at times even bypassed — traditionally reliable partners. Russia is one such country, which has stood by us even during the most turbulent of times. The U.S. needs us more because we are an emerging economic market. Unni Krishnan, Kochi Our finances are looking good and our armed forces are able to pursue military exercises with other nations. To know and understand the modern weaponry is a great advantage and tremendous amount of expertise is gained to fight our wars. The “Malabar Exercises” will not cause a third world war. Air Cmdr. V.V. Nair (retd), Manipal
