N. Korea ‘restoring’ n-facilities

P. S. Suryanarayana

SINGAPORE: North Korea has commenced “work to restore” the nuclear facilities at the Yongbyon complex. This follows the “suspension” of their “disablement” for some time now. The “disabling” process began last November under international supervision. North Korea’s Foreign Ministry said on Friday the objective was to restore the facilities to “their original state.”

Politically, the move was described as “a countermeasure” against the action of the U.S. “to indefinitely put on hold” the process of declassifying North Korea as “a state-sponsor of terrorism.” Pyongyang “will [therefore] go its own way,” a spokesman said.
