SAI outclasses Excise

BANGALORE: Sports Authority of India (SAI) outclassed Central Excise 7-2 in the first phase of the State super division hockey league at the SAI South Centre ground here on Friday.

Nilesh began the goal-glut with a strike in the seventh minute and added two more in the 22nd and 34th minutes. Nitin Thimmaiah (19th & 45th), Vineeth Micheal (38th) and Somanna (56th) were the other scorers. P. Aiyappa (24th) and Bikrampal Singh (33rd) reduced the margin.

MEG registered its first win in two matches, beating PCTC by an odd goal in three. Prithvi Shetty scored a brace (33rd and 54) for the Sappers while Kujur netted PCTC’s lone goal in the 50th minute.

Sarfaraz’s effort in vain

Mohammad Sarfaraz’s 70 went in vain as Tumkur suffered an 11-run defeat against Shimoga in a KSCA under-19 inter-zonal tournament match here on Friday.

The scores: Shimoga 233 for seven in 50 overs (Ajith Shenoy 62, N. Ashok 62) bt Tumkur 222 in 46.3 overs (Md. Sarfaraz 70).

Raichur 118 in 34.5 overs (Sachin Bhat four for 36) lost to Mangalore 121 for four in 30 overs.

Mysore 174 in 46.3 overs (R. Laxman 62, Pawan 48, Rohit More five for 56, Zeeshan Sayed four for 41) lost to Dharwad 174 for seven in 42.3 overs (Ajay Patil 40 n.o.).

Narendran shines

Narendran scored a breezy 52 to guide MVJ College of Engineering to a seven-wicket win over Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering and progress into the league stage of the 11th Dr. M.S. Ramaiah Memorial inter-engineering colleges cricket tournament at the HMT ground here on Friday.

Also making it to the semifinal league were MSRIT, RNSIT and BMSCE.

The scores:

MSRIT 183 for five in 30 overs (Anindya Ghosh 48, Tejas Wagle n.o. 52) bt Acharya Inst. Of Tech. 136 in 26.5 overs (Irfan n.o. 58; Sourajeet Pradhan four for 19).

RVCE 140in 30 overs (Madan Kumar 33) lost to BMSCE 141 for one in 25.5 overs (Avik Banerjee n.o. 65, Kalan Rao n.o. 38).

Dayanand Sagar CE 136 for seven in 27 overs (Kiran 38) lost to MVJCE 137 for three in 17 overs (Narendran 52, Kuttappa 37, Prashanth n.o. 33).

BIT 129 in 24.2 overs (Bipin three for 23) lost to RNSIT 130 for three in 27.4 overs (Nikhil Kashyap n.o. 59).

Chess championship

The State under-7 chess championship has been postponed from September 26 to 28. The tournament will be held at the State Youth Centre here and details can be had from R. Hanumantha, ph – 26612184.

Cue sports meet

The Karnataka State Billiards Association along with Pankaj Advani and Sonic Boom Entertainment will organise Cannon’ 08, an inter-corporate cue sports meet here from September 27.
