UEFA corrects red card error

NYON: UEFA on Friday overturned a red card given to the wrong player in the Champions League match between Celtic and Aalborg.

Italian referee Matteo Trefoloni sent off the Danish champion’s Michael Beauchamp for a professional foul on Celtic forward Giorgios Samaras even though it was another defender, Michael Jakobsen, who committed the offence in Wednesday’s match.

Trefoloni now faces a reprimand from the UEFA referees’ committee. — AP
