TDP allots ‘portfolios’ of a different kind

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Portfolios several months before elections Much like allotment of portfolios to the Ministers, the party has categorised the promises into six broad areas and asked the six members to take up the study at a meeting of the manifesto committee on Friday. So Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, chairman of the manifesto committee who was Finance Minister during TDP rule, would look into finance, revenue and employment related promises.

Expectedly, Kadiam Srihari would take care of irrigation, welfare and education, Dadi Veerabhadra Rao, land related subjects and BC welfare, Ummareddy Venkateswarlu, agriculture and the remaining ones by Ravula Chandrasekhara Reddy and Kaluva Srinivasulu.

A member of the committee and senior leader however clarified that the subjects were divided in accordance with previous knowledge and for convenience and definitely not a kitchen cabinet in the making.

The committee has also decided to begin an elaborate study of manifestos of major political parties in the country, especially regional ones before it comes up with its own for the 2009 Assembly elections. Party sources said the committee which has already listed 208 promises, felt the need for such a study to see that the party’s manifesto stood out both in terms of content and viability.

The committee believed to have made light of the Congress criticism of Mr. Naidu’s promises during “Mee Kosam Yatra” and found all of them financially viable. “By and large all of them could be implemented in view of the fact that the State’s income and revenue has gone up by leaps and bounds”, said a member of the committee.
