Sabitha Indra Reddy said all Narayana College buildings would be inspected following the Chengicherla incident on Saturday. “Inspections will be conducted to test the structural stability”, she said, after consoling the injured students at the Kamineni hospital along with legislator Malreddy Ranga Reddy. Action would be taken against the village secretary and sarpanch holding them responsible for violations committed during construction of the building. Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy too expressed concern over the incident. “Private institutions with overcrowded classrooms should take care of the safety of students and staff. Any kind of carelessness would not be tolerated,” he said. The Education Department was directed to inspect and initiate action against such private schools and colleges. Ranga Reddy district Collector M. Dana Kishore announced Rs.5 lakh compensation to the family of Lokesh Reddy and Rs.10,000 each to the injured students. Ten teams comprising officials from the Revenue, Municipal, Education, Panchayat Raj and Police Departments are to inspect all the private college buildings in the district.
