Don’t be complacent, Congress leaders told

Staff Reporter

TADIPATRI: Congress leaders in the district have exuded confidence that the welfare and development schemes being implemented by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy will help the party return to power in the next elections. Huge turnout of crowds for UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s meeting at Anantapur recently is a clear indication, they felt.

Minister for Panchayati Raj J.C. Diwakar Reddy organised a meeting, ‘abhinandana sabha’ here on Sunday to celebrate the success of the Sonia Gandhi’s meeting. In-charge Minister for the district and Housing Minister B. Satyanarayana, Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy, Zilla Parishad Chairperson T. Kavitha, MPs A. Venkatarami Reddy and G. Nizamuddin, DCC president P. Venugopal Reddy, legislators and party leaders from all Assembly constituencies participated. “We can’t simply sit over the success of the meeting but make efforts to win over the people till the last minute,” Mr. Satyanarayana cautioned the district leaders. Ministers Mr. Diwakar Reddy and Mr. Raghuveera Reddy, MP Mr. Venkatarami Reddy, however, predicted a near total sweep for the party in the next polls.

Groupism

Groups in the party that have differences with Mr. Diwakar Reddy stayed away from the meeting. They included party in-charges for Dharmavaram and Penukonda constituencies K. Venkatarami Reddy and G. Bhanumati, respectively, and Gorantla legislator P. Ravindra Reddy. Interestingly, the party meeting was presided over by a teacher, who also happens to be district president of APTF and mandal literacy officer of Tadipatri, Raghurami Reddy, initially.

Earlier in the day, rival party groups from Gorantla constituency led by legislator Mr. Ravindra Reddy and C. Gopal Reddy, respectively, met the in-charge Minister in Anantapur to present their cases.

The Minister was learnt to have strongly cautioned the group against the legislator that they had no business to fall between the MLA and the Minister at loggerheads and it would be settled by the two and the party.

Others should not comment against the legislator in public and such an attitude had already damaged the party’s reputation there. A ZPTC member, four MPTC members, seven sarpanches and five PACSs presidents quit their posts by handing over their resignation letters to ZP Chairperson Ms. Kavitha, Minister Mr. Raguveera Reddy in Hindupur on Saturday, alleging high-handedness of a group encouraged Mr. Diwakar Reddy.
