MYSORE: It’s official. Beijing Olympic medallists Abhinav Bindra, Vijender Singh and Sushil Kumar are participating in the Mysore Dasara festivities commencing here on September 30. The State Government had invited Mr. Bindra, who won the gold medal in air rifle shooting at the Olympics, for inaugurating the Dasara sports event. Boxer Vijender Singh and wrestler Sushil Kumar were invited to open the wrestling tournament conducted as part of the festivities. ArrivalThe sportspersons will arrive here on October 3 and participate in the inauguration of Dasara Sports on October 4. Disclosing this to reporters here on Sunday, Minister in-charge of Mysore district Shobha Karandlaje said the sportspersons had confirmed their participation and added that they would be felicitated in recognition of their exemplary achievement in sports. Cash awardThe cash award announced by the State Government after they won the medals would be presented to gold medallist Abhinav Bindra and bronze medallists Vijender Singh and Sushil Kumar on October 4 during the felicitation programme. The Government had announced Rs. 10 lakh to Mr Bindra and Rs. 5 lakh each to Mr. Singh and Mr. Kumar. “We are yet to finalise the venue for holding the felicitation programme. It may be finalised on Monday,” Deputy Commissioner P. Manivannan, who is the Dasara Special Officer, told The Hindu.
