Letters to the Editor
The Union government has done well to issue a fresh advisory to the governments of Karnataka and Orissa (September 20) saying that incidents of violence against the Christian community was a breach of constitutional provisions and the law of the land. It is not understood why the government has not considered the concerns over the reported hate campaigns unleashed by the “newly converted” communities of Christians (the Kerala Catholic Bishops Conference has noted these with concern) as a clear breach of constitutional provisions and the law of the land. The provocative literature distributed widely by the neo-Christian movement in Karnataka is also culpable. Col. C.V. Venugopalan (retd.), Palakkad The UPA government’s warning to Karnataka regarding attacks on churches in the State is quite amusing considering its own pathetic and lukewarm action against the dastardly acts by religious terrorists which claimed many lives and caused immense damage to public property.
