Seeks flyovers and bypass roads to ease traffic congestion
A SLEW OF RESOlUTIONS: BJP leader and former Union Minister V. Dhananjayakumar at the executive meeting of the party’s territorial unit in Puducherry on Sunday. PUDUCHERRY: The territorial unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday flayed Union Minister of State for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs V. Narayanasamy for describing the Opposition parties as “enemy parties.” Dubbing Mr. Narayanasamy’s remarks “undemocratic,” a resolution adopted at the executive committee of the Puducherry unit of the BJP urged him to withdraw them immediately. The Congress government had “ruined” the development of the Union Territory in different sectors, including industry, agriculture, power distribution, transport, housing, health and education, owing to the “power struggle” in the ruling party, a resolution adopted by the executive committee said. The meeting also charged the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam with extending support to the territorial government even while criticising the administration through statements issued to the media. Through another resolution, the party urged the government to focus on removal of traffic congestion by constructing flyovers and laying bypass roads. It urged the administration to ensure that benefits of welfare schemes such as the housing project named after Kamaraj reached all eligible persons. With a view to avoiding irregularities, the government should not lay a precondition that the applications had to be signed by the local legislator, it said, adding that the schemes should be implemented only through the officials concerned. Referring to the government’s announcement related to providing a subsidy of Rs.30 on liquefied petroleum gas cylinders, the executive said the benefit should reach all the domestic consumers. The meeting also urged the government to bring forward legislation to ensure that private medical colleges in the Union Territory provided 50 per cent of seats for the students selected through the Centralised Admission Committee. The government should reimburse the fee to the students during the particular academic year itself, it said. The executive committee urged the Central government to immediately withdraw the coastal zone management notification. It urged the territorial administration to release a White Paper on the financial situation. Among others, former Union Minister and BJP leader V. Dhananjayakumar and president of the territorial unit of the party M.Visweswaran participated in the meeting.
