Regulator gate washed away at Karampudi
Staff Reporter
GUNTUR: Release of water into the Nagarjunasagar Project Right Canal was stopped on Sunday morning after a side gate at the escape regulator on the 34th mile in Karampudi village was washed away due to the gushing waters.
The escape regulator besides the main canal was being used to store water and release it to the farm lands in the upstream.
The regulator with a carrying capacity of 2,500 - 3,000 cusecs had been receiving an excess of 1,300 cusecs of water sliding from the nearby hillocks and was washed on Sunday morning.
Irrigation officials rushed to the site and were monitoring the repair works.
Superintendent Engineer Lingamguntla K. Rayulu told The Hindu that water release has been temporarily stopped owing to the breach and exuded confidence that the repair work would be completed by Monday morning. He also added that there was no immediate danger of inundation as the water would be flown into the Krishna.
