WORTHY WINNERS: N. Subrahmanyam, presenting the N. Pratik Memroial Cup to the Drupal Godara and Manupal Godara. HYDERABAD: Taj Krishna and Taj Deccan-BRPI, who were locked in a three-all draw, were declared joint-winners of the Taj Krishna-sponsored Pratik Memorial Cup, the concluding event of the Hyderabad Polo Season at Bison Polo Grounds here on Sunday. Fitting tributeIt was a fitting tribute to N. Pratik, one of the brightest talent from the City who passed away early this year at the age of 25. The eight-goal event was off to an exciting start with Taj Deccan earning a 60-yard penalty in the very second minute of first chukker. Manupal Godara’s neat right-hander give Taj Deccan an early lead. In the second chukker, Manupal, a +4 handicap player, was in the thick of it again with as he raced down from the right flank to essay another beautiful shot to make it 2-0. Dhrupal Godara, also a +4 handicap player and brother of Manupal, however, reduced the margin for Taj Krishna with a spot hit near the centre. Dhrupal then scored his second goal in the second chukker to level the scores. Short-lived joyDhrupal Godara ensured Taj Krishna got the lead at the start of the third chukker. But, his team’s joy was short-lived as Manupal was back in the scoring act in the fourth chukker. Heavy downpour forced abandonment of the play with four minutes of play still left. The organisers then declared both the teams as joint-winners. The winner’s trophy was presented by Mr. N. Subrahmanyam, father of late N. Pratik.
