No complacency: Panchayat Raj Minister JC Diwakar Reddy (second from right) addressing a meeting of the East Godavari District Review Committee at Kakinada on Monday.

Kakinada: Panchayat Raj Minister J.C Diwakar Reddy ordered that the construction of houses pending under first and second phases of Indiramma scheme be completed at the earliest and a proper plan of action be implemented for the third phase.

He suggested to the Housing Department officials to set up mandal level stock points where cement and other material could be stored to avoid delays in the construction of houses about which there have been many complaints.

Addressing the District Review Committee meeting at the Zilla Parishad meeting hall here on Monday, Mr. Reddy said that there should be no complacency in implementing Indiramma scheme to which the Government accorded top priority and warned that stern action would be taken against the officials who fail to discharge their duties promptly and in time.

Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi told the Minister that the bankers were asked to expedite the process of sanctioning bridge loans by setting aside their commercial motive for the public good.

Gas pipeline

Kakinada MLA Mutha Gopalakrishna said Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) sought the permission of Kakinada municipal corporation for digging roads to lay gas pipelines but the civic officials had kept quiet for the last five months.

In response, the Minister ordered that the Reliance Industries Limited be informed that it could go ahead with the gas pipeline project subject to the guidelines issued by the Central and State Governments. The Minister also instructed the district administration to convene a meeting of all stakeholders including the people’s representatives to prepare an action plan to check the pollution of Godavari water at several places in view of the rising instances of various effluents being let into the river.
