Role of corporate educational sector needs to be recognised, he says Stress on courses helping in exploring natural wealth Kakinada: Vice-Chancellor of JNTU Allam Appa Rao exhorted the higher educational institutions to contribute their mite to developing the State into a knowledge hub of Asia-Pacific by enriching the human capital. It is only through a qualitative improvement in education that the human resource can be effectively harnessed in the process of development. The JNTU will play a catalytic role in realizing the goal and is prepared to take innovative steps in that direction, Prof. Rao said. Addressing the secretaries and correspondents of affiliated colleges of JNTU at Rangaraya Medical College auditorium here on Monday, Prof. Rao said he would focus on developing Information and Communications Technology (ICT)-based knowledge infrastructure and he was not averse to experimenting with the ways of imparting education as the university could not afford to lag behind other institutions of higher learning. As a startup, he would tie up with the Software Technology Park of India, Kakinada, for promotion of IT and ITES which lent a new dimension to the Indian economy. Prof. Rao said the contribution of corporate educational sector to the economic upsurge needed to be recognized and they had a greater responsibility in restructuring the technical curriculum in such a way that it sustained the economic growth. He also stressed the need to introduce new courses which would help in exploring the natural wealth existing in the coastal belt. The JNTU would fit in this context as the guiding force for which it required the full cooperation of the affiliated colleges and academicians, he added. JNTU Engineering College Principal E.V Prasad said the university had to now take care of the different stakeholders associated with 152 engineering colleges, 21 pharmacy colleges and two MCA colleges in addition to two constituent colleges located at Kakinada and Vizianagaram. The immediate tasks on hand we revamping the Internet-based examination system, development of an automated database of colleges with real time access, attracting international students and enhancing the R&D activity. JNTU (Kakinada) Registrar V Ravindra said development of the existing college campus into university campus, conduct of contact-cum-correspondence courses, M.Tech and Ph.D programs from this academic year and generating resources from the Government for development of Vizianagaram campus were the thrust areas. Aditya Educational Institutions chairman and MLC N Sesha Reddy, P.V Viswam of Kakinada Institute of Engineering and Technology,JNTU Engineering College (Vizianagaram) Principal Prof. V Ramachandra Raju and others werepresent.
