CPI(M) demands pension for eligible

Correspondent

Chittoor: Members of the Communits Party of India (CPI-M) district unit led by its leaders Chaithanya and Surendra Kumar staged a dharna in front of the collectorate on Monday demanding that the government sanction widow, old age and physically handicapped pensions to all eligible persons.

They alleged that several eligible persons were not sanctioned pension under different categories due to improper survey by the officers concerned.

A.S. Manohar, MLA, addressing the protesters, alleged that pensions were sanctioned only to Congress party workers and ignoring genuine persons. The promise of the government to sanction pension to all the eligible persons was far from truth, he said. The leaders presented a memorandum to Collector M. Ravi Chandra.

The AITUC-affiliated Sangamitra Association district union also staged a dharna demanding job security and enhancement of their salaries, besides payment on the first of every month.
