Unions demand reinstatement of workers

VIZIANAGARAM: It was a day of protests at the Collector’s Office on Monday. TDP MLA from Bhogapuram P. Narayanaswamy Naidu and leaders of CITU, IFTU, AITUC and DBSU staged protest at the entrance of the Collector’s Office demanding reinstatement of nine contract workers by Chorom Pakpond (CP Aqua) in Poosapatirega mandal and withdraw cases against 23 workers. Talking to media persons, the MLA said that the retrenchment of workers was uncalled for, as the workers were to form a union to fight for the redress of their grievances. He threatened to intensify the agitation with the support of all trade unions. M. Srinivasa (CITU), V. Krishnam Raju (AITUC), K. Sanyasi Rao (IFTU), B. Chittibabu (DBSU) and others participated. The MLA submitted a memorandum to in-charge Joint Collector P.A. Sobha.

Lecturers protest

In a separate protest, contract lecturers working with A.P. Government junior and degree colleges in the district demanded regularisation of their services. The association’s State vice-president S. Dorababu said that the lecturers would participate in relay fast in support of the State committee’s fast-unto-death agitation. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the in-charge Joint Collector.

Mid-day meal workers’ union led by Reddy Indira (CPI-M) staged protests and submitted a memorandum to the Joint Collector demanding release of bill amounts pending for the last six months.
