Editor drops out of PM’s party due to visa delay

New Delhi: An editor of a leading Assamese daily had to drop out of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s two-nation trip to the U.S. and France as the American Embassy here delayed processing of his visa allegedly due to his religious identity.

Haidar Hussain, Editor of Asomiya Pratidin, alleged that the U.S. Embassy took longer to clear his visa since he was from the minority community. “For the first time I felt that I am a Muslim. Never before in my life, I felt so much humiliation. I have been working for peace and communal harmony since my student days,” he said. — PTI
