GUWAHATI: The newly elected president of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Chandra Mohan Patowary, on Monday said his party was striving for an electoral tie-up with the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Left, the Assam United Democratic Front and other like-minded parties to unitedly oppose the Congress in the Lok Sabha elections. Mr. Patowary, who is also the Leader of the Opposition, told journalists here that the AGP had succeeded in ensuring floor coordination of the entire opposition in the Assam Assembly. However, the Left parties have said they will have no truck with the AGP if it reaches a tie-up with the BJP. The AGP General House, which met here on Sunday, elected Mr. Patowary president. It dissolved the central executive committee headed by the dislodged president Brindaban Goswami after he declined to resign as demanded by the highest decision-making body and quit the meeting venue.
