SHIMLA: Inclement weather have left over 400 people stranded on the 475-km-long Manali-Leh highway. The Deputy Commissioner of Lahaul and Spiti, C. Paul Rasu, said on Monday that people travelling on the Manali-Leh highway are struck at various. “A hundred big and small avalanches have occurred between Darcha and Baralacha Pass. The district administration has provided blankets, ration and medicines to about 400 people stranded on the road,” he added. Over 100 vehicles have also been stranded between Baralacha Pass and Darcha in Lahaul Valley. “Employees of the Border Roads Organisation are working round the clock to open National Highway-21. If the weather is normal, it might take another two days to clear the highway from Baralacha Pass to Sarchu, 222 km from Manali,” he added. Commander Doon of HQ 38 BRTF General Reserve Engineering Force said the national highway from Manali to Rohtang Pass was cleared of snow on Sunday.
