Analysing a newspaper

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Drishya Rose Thomas never spared a thought when asked why she loved reading The Hindu newspaper.

“It is undoubtedly the country’s best newspaper. The Hindu has been maintaining its standard for the last several years”, she said.

A student of the MBA programme at the SCMS School of Technology and Management (SSTM) at Muttom near here, Drishya is part of the growing tribe of youngsters maintaining their strong loyalty towards India’s national newspaper.

The Hindu is analysed threadbare daily, as part of a classroom learning programme launched by the SSTM under the SCMS Group. Explains D. Radhakrishnan Nair, Professor of English: “The Hindu newspaper analysis is part of the Business Communication paper for the MBA students. The internal assessment component has been converted in to a practical programme, where students analyse the various contents in a newspaper. The classroom becomes a newsroom through this unique process. We selected The Hindu for the project, as it remains the best newspaper in the country”. Supporting Deepthi’s views, Arjun K. K elaborated on the daily learning programme: “We have to write one article each from sections that include international, national, State, sports, editorial, culture and business. All the articles should be analysed and we should paste them in our notebook and also write a comment on it”.
