Madras High Court order on marketing condoms stayed

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday stayed a Madras High Court order that condoms cannot be marketed with explicit visuals either printed on the wrappers or in advertisements.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan also issued notice to the Centre, the Tamil Nadu government, the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI), the Central Board of Film Certification, condom manufacturing companies like TTK-LIG, Hindustan Latex, Pashupathi Seohung, JK Ansell and C. Ravikumar, the petitioner before the High Court.

It also stayed the High Court order that directed all condom manufacturers to seek permission for their promotional activities from ASCI. — PTI
