State faulted for celebrating farm award
HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Ryotu Sangham has criticised the State Government for harping on the conferment of the agriculture leadership award from the Centre at a time when farmers were agitating against the failure of the administration to check diesel, fertilizer and seed shortage.
Sangham president K. Ramakrishna and general secretary Ravula Venkaiah expressed concern that suicides of farmers were continuing despite the Government’s claims on ushering in farmer-friendly administration.
Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy should clarify how the Government that was driving away farmers from their lands in the name of special economic zones could claim to be farmer friendly, they said.
They wondered how the State government was adjudged the leader despite the problems faced by the farm sector and doubted whether Andhra Pradesh was selected for its “publicity campaign.”
