ADILABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) leader and former Zilla Parishad chairperson Ch. Suhasini Reddy will launch a ‘padayatra’ in Jainad and Bela mandals on September 26 with the aim of pressurising the government on construction of the inter-State Lower Penganga Project (LPP). The padayatra will start from Korta village near Hathigutta village in Jainad mandal where the right canal of the LPP enters Adilabad district and will touch all the villages along the banks of river Penganga on the Andhra Pradesh side. Ms. Reddy told reporters here on Tuesday that the Congress has been taking people for a ride by dishing out empty promises on construction of the LPP. She said even the Chief Minister committed himself many a time in this regard without actually putting the assurance into practice. She demanded that the government sanction its 12 per cent share in the project. The LPP will irrigate 40,000 acres in the two mandals besides helping to control havoc caused by a flooding Penganga, the TRS leaders said. She demanded that the government take up construction of the project immediately or apologise to the people for failing to keep the promise.
