Challa Ramakrishna VISAKHAPATNAM: Assistant Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication, Andhra University, Challa Ramakrishna participated in the Convention and Journalism Conference of the Society of Professional Journalists at Atlanta in United States of America. The conference was held from September 4 to 7. The professor presented a paper at the conference and spoke about the growing trend of citizen journalism in India. He also delivered a lecture on ‘Political communication and Indian perspective’ at the Columbus State University. On his experiences at the conference, Dr. Ramakrishna said that the concept of citizen journalism was widely encouraged by various channels like CNN in the US, and they play a major role in covering natural calamities and important events. A number of working journalists, Pulitzer Prize awardees and senior academicians participated in the conference. Head of the Department of Journalism, AU, Bobby Vardhan, D.V.R. Murthy and other faculty members and students congratulated Dr. Ramakrishna on his return. Tourism Day contestsThe regional Information Centre of AP Tourism will organise competitions for high school students in light music, essay-writing and painting on September 25. The competitions to mark the World Tourism Day will be organised in association with the district Bal Bhavan. The winners will be given away prizes at the Tourism Day celebrations on September 27.
