VIJAYAWADA: A 35-year old person made a suicide attempt by consuming poison at the Police Commissionerate here on Tuesday, but survived when the alert policemen shifted him to hospital. The police said P. Ramachandra Rao, a resident of Chitti Nagar, ekes out a livelihood by renting out auto-rickshaws to drivers. He purchased a van from one S. Satyanarayana through a broker called Deepak some time ago. But, the duo did not give him any receipts for the initial payments he made to them. Ramachandra Rao, who grew suspicious of their behaviour, planned to lodge a complaint with the Police Commissioner. When the duo came to know of Ramachandra Rao’s plan, they invited him on Monday to settle the issue amicably. He cleared the final payment of Rs. 30,000 to them, but again they declined to give a receipt. Instead, they thrashed him, the police said. Subsequently, Ramchadra Rao approached Police Commissioner’s office on Tuesday to lodge a complaint. But, Ramachandra Rao consumed poison even before he could meet Commissioner K. V. Rajendranath Reddy. The police, who were on duty at the reception, noticed consumption of poison, shifted him to government hospital for treatment immediately. His condition is stated to be stable, said SI Bangara Raju, who made a few preliminary inquiries. Satyanarayanapuram police registered a case and are investigating.
