NEW DELHI: Yuki Bhambri won both his singles and doubles matches as India scored a 2-1 victory over host Mexico in a Pool ‘D’ league match of the junior Davis Cup World Group under-16 tennis at San Luis Potosi on Monday. “Yuki was broken in the first game, but he broke back. “He was down 1-4, but adjusted well to the court conditions and produced good backhands and serves to take the set 7-5. “He was in total command in the second set,” the team captain, Kawaljeet Singh, said. Great showKawaljeet added that the Indian boys played the doubles encounter very well, especially to bounce back from 0-40 on Yuki’s serve in the ninth game of the second set to wrap up the contest in the next game. “The match was played on the centre court with the crowd cheering the home team. “It was a good win for our boys. We expect tough competition in every match ahead,” said the captain. Second seed India will play Brazil and Great Britain in its next two matches in its bid to qualify for the knock-out stage. Great Britain and Brazil were tied 1-1 at the end of the singles and the doubles was yet to be played. Interestingly, Great Britain has the former World No. 4 Greg Rusedski as its captain. The results: India bt Mexico 2-1 (Saurabh Singh lost to Alexis Carlos 4-6, 2-6; Yuki Bhambri bt Fernando Larrea 7-5, 6-0; Yuki & Saurabh bt Carlos & Daniel Fernandez 6-1, 6-4).
