Kasaragod: An 11-year-old boy afflicted with a disease suspected to have been caused by the spraying of Endosulfan pesticide in the Kerala State Cashew Plantation Corporation estate here died after prolonged treatment. Harimurali, suffering from epilepsy and perpetual body exhaustion right from birth died on Tuesday at his residence at Karmanthody close to Mulleria near here, official sources said. Despite having attended several medical camps meant for the victims of Endosulfan pesticide spraying, his condition continued to remain critical, the sources said. The pesticide spraying in the cashew plantation estates in 11 panchayats of the northern district was suspended after 2000 following protests in the wake of mysterious diseases claiming 200 lives. Several people staying close to the Corporation estates are grappling with mysterious diseases, suspected to have been caused by unscientific aerial spraying of the pesticide. — PTI
