Manipal: The premises of the New Lecture Hall Complex at the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) was searched here on Wednesday after an SMS claimed that a bomb had been planted there. The SMS was later found to be a hoax. A team of policemen with a sniffer dog searched the premises after being informed about the SMS. After about an hour’s search nothing was found and the SMS proved to be a hoax. Examinations that were on were disrupted because of the search operations. Police officer B.G. Achar told presspersons that he and his team carried out the search operations on the directions of top police officials. Superintendent of Police Pravin Pawar told The Hindu that he received a call from a top Andhra Pradesh police official about the SMS, which was received by his daughter. “We are trying to trace from where the SMS had come,” he said.
