Special cell to tackle labour disputes soon

Manisha Jha

GREATER NOIDA: Following the arrest of 136 people in connection with the death of Lalit Kishore Chaudhury, Chief Executive Officer of Graziano Trasmissioni India in Greater Noida on Monday, the district administration has decided to constitute a special industrial dispute cell here to exclusively tackle industrial disputes.

A new post of Deputy Superintendent of Police, who would be heading the cell and be responsible for holding regular meetings with industrialists to sort out their disputes, has also been created.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Noida) R. K. Chaturvedi said on Wednesday: “The industrial cell will be headed by an official of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police. The officers engaged in this cell will solely be responsible for industrial issues and nothing else.”

“The police do not get training in handling industrial disputes which are of a very different nature from the normal law and order situations that we are accustomed to handle. We will set up this cell by the month-end,” he added.

Members of the Association of Greater Noida Industries had demanded creation of a special cell in view of the volatile turn of events on Monday. The next meeting between the authorities and the Association will take place on September 30 where the police will explain the progress in the matter.

Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police (Greater Noida) and the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dadri Circle) have been transferred. In addition, the Station House Officer of Bisrakh police station has been suspended along with the police post in-charge concerned. Mr. S. K.Verma has assumed office as the new SP (Greater Noida) from Wednesday.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Italian company, Marcello Lamberto, visited the company premises on Wednesday to take stock of the situation. “My first priority is to ensure the security of my employees and we will decide the future course of action after taking stock of the situation,” he added.

Mr. Lamberto went to the residence of Mr. Chaudhury and met the bereaved family to express condolences on behalf of his company. Thereafter, he went to Kailash Hospital where the company’s injured executives and workers have been admitted.

The company’s Human Resources Manager, L. K. Gupta, said: “ We will try our best to get the company running and most probably production work should resume on Monday.”

Mr. Chaudhury was battered to death at the company’s plant in Greater Noida on Monday allegedly by a group of dismissed employees.
