dated September 26, 1958: Commonwealth trade

Commonwealth Ministers agreed in principle to set up a Commonwealth Economic Consultative Council, it was announced in Montreal on September 24. The Earl of Home, Britain’s Commonwealth Economic Secretary, said after a discussion of the matter by the Commonwealth Trade and Economic Conference, that the Council would not have executive powers, but would be the top body for consultations on Commonwealth finance, trade and other matters. A proposal to set up a “Commonwealth House” in London as the venue of various Commonwealth consultative activities was also agreed upon.
