12,578 free bicycles distributed

For students: Workers assembling bicycles for distribution at the Krishnagiri Boys Higher Secondary School. —

KRISHNAGIRI: In all 12,578 free bicycles were distributed to the 11th and 12th standard students of government and aided schools in Krishnagiri, the Chief Educational Officer, Baskaran, said.

He said so far 90 per cent of the bicycles meant for the students were distributed in the district.

The assembling of 616 bicycles is underway on the premises of Krishnagiri Government Boys Higher Secondary School. These cycles will be distributed to the students soon.

Meanwhile free bicycles were distributed to the students of Krishnagiri Government Girls Higher Secondary School on Wednesday. The government is paying Rs. 35 for assembling a bicycle to the contractors, one of the workers said.

A worker can assemble on an average 10 cycles a day, he added.
