BIDAR: Minister for Food and Civil Supplies H. Halappa has directed officials of the Department of Food and Civil supplies to distribute ration cards to families living below the poverty line (BPL). If any government employee was found to have a BPL card, action would be initiated against him, he said. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Halappa said that 80 lakh families had been given BPL cards in the State. In Bidar district, 2,12,620 families had been given BPL cards out of a total of 4,11,164 eligible families. The Minister asked the officials of the department to initiate proper measures for the distribution of foodgrains and kerosene through fair price shops. Mr. Halappa said there were 738 fair price shops and 968 outlets to distribute kerosene. In four months, 1,895 fair price shops had been inspected and officials had detected 75 cases of irregularities. Action would be taken against the guilty persons, he added. He said that an official attached to the department at Bhalki had been placed under suspension on the charge of dereliction of duties.
