CHIRALA: Minister for Vaidya Vidhana Parishad Vanama Venkateswara Rao has warned pharmaceutical companies and medical shops that stringent action will be taken against them if they indulge in production or sale of sub-standard drugs. Speaking to newspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Venkateswara Rao said that drug inspectors had seized sub-standard drugs worth Rs. 6 crores in the State last year. The government had appointed 50 drug inspectors to inspect nearly 1,450 pharmaceutical companies and 43,000 medical shops to ensure that drug manufacturers adhered to standards. The Minister said that the government was giving top priority to provide better medical facilities in primary health centres and area hospitals for the benefit of poor people. As many as 2.5 crore people availed of medical services in the government hospitals out of total population of 8 crore.
