Rs.267.62 crore for farmers’ insurance
CHENNAI: Under the National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS), 2,85,000 farmers will be provided Rs.267.62 crore, out of which Rs.125.52 crore will be given by the Tamil Nadu government.
To compensate financial losses due to vagaries of monsoon, pests and other such reasons, this scheme of the Centre was introduced for farmers in Tamil Nadu in 2000. The sum to be disbursed to farmers under this scheme in 2007 is Rs.267,61,78,137, which will be shared by the Centre and the State. The Tamil Nadu government has announced that its share of Rs.125.52 crore will be released, a release said. — Staff Reporter
