Ties up with Airtel to bundle broadband connection To capitalise on the festive season BANGALORE: With the festive season round the corner, Hewlett Packard is sharply targeting young, upwardly mobile buyers in India, with a new line-up of notebook PCs in its budget Compaq range. Some of the ten new models offer features hitherto available only in the pricier portable PCs — like a TV type- remote to complement the 16:9 ratio wide screens tailored to view movie content; a finger printer reader to provide secure access; a ‘3D Drive Guard’ that makes the machines’ hard drives, virtually drop proof; and a High Definition Multimedia Interface ( HDMI1.3) which allows the downloading of superior audio and video content. At the national launch here on Thursday, Rajiev Grover, HP India’s Director, Consumer Products (Personal Systems Group), said the new Compaq notebooks also came pre-installed with useful software tools like QuickPlay 3.7 to facilitate DVD playing without switching on the computer functions; Cyberlink Webcam application and Soft Stylus for character recognition. “The Compaq range is priced affordably in the range of Rs. 27,000 to Rs. 49,000 and will appeal to young users who want to mix productivity with pleasure,” he added. At the entry level, the Rs. 26,990 CQ40-133TU is fuelled by a mobile Celeron chip; 1 GB of memory and comes with a 160 GB hard drive and a 14 inch screen. It is unloaded with an operating system. At the other end of the range, the Rs. 48,990 CompaqCQ45-211TU has an Intel dual core Mobile processor under the hood; 3 GB of memory and a 250 GB hard drive, with Windows Vista home software. A DVD writer is standard across the range. As part of its festive offering, HP has partnered with Airtel who will offer a discounted broadband connection and a free wireless router.
