Chamber Show 2008 begins

Eye catching: Garments at the Chamber Show presented by the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry at Ramakrishna Kalyana Mandapam in Coimbatore on Thursday.

COIMBATORE: For those who are waiting to go on a shopping spree, the Chamber Show 2008 will be worth a visit.

Stalls with glittering silk sarees and jewellery welcome the visitors at the entrance.

With about 100 participants, the exhibition has anything that a household is looking for – vegetable cutters, garments and handbags to scooters, bank products and snacks. Most of these are made in Coimbatore.

President of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore, D. Balasundaram, inaugurated the four-day event on Thursday evening at Sri Ramakrishna Kalyana Mandapam.

The fifth edition of the event, organised by the Chamber, also has some special programmes for children, women, entrepreneurs and youth. ‘Aaniver’ and ‘Vettriyin Panmugangal’ are well-known sessions that are organised annually as part of the exhibition to discuss women issues and to celebrate entrepreneurship.

These are held in the evening at 6 p.m. On September 26, it will be an event for youth. Aaniver will be on September 27 and on Sunday, it will be the meeting for entrepreneurs.

This year, apart from these drawing competition, quiz and talent show will be held in the morning, mainly for children. Programmes will be held for women on subjects such as bridal make-up and handicrafts.
