“Convene all-party meeting on Sri Lanka”

Special Correspondent

Ramadoss plea to Karunanidhi

S. Ramadoss

VILLUPURAM: Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss has urged Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to immediately convene an all-party meeting to pass a resolution to condemn the Sri Lankan government for the attacks on the ethnic Tamils, and express solidarity with the oppressed people there.

The situation on the island threatens to eliminate the entire Tamil race, and collective action is required to protect them, Dr. Ramadoss told reporters at Thailapuram on Thursday.

While the Tamils were being killed in large numbers on the island, the Centre was turning the other way round and the State government, acting as a mute spectator.

Dr. Ramadoss further said that to protect the Eelam Tamils, political parties in Tamil Nadu should vie with one another.

He urged the Chief Minister to make an announcement on October 2 that the TASMAC outlets would be closed in a phased manner as a step towards imposing total prohibition, instead of supplying a package of essential items at concessional rate through fair price shops.

Dr. Ramadoss said if the TASMAC outlets were closed, each family with an addicted member could save Rs.2,000 a month. Statistics revealed that the daily turnover of these outlets was in the order of Rs 35 crore.
