An extravaganza on travel and tourism from today

State Tourism Boards ready to showcase their best


CHENNAI: State Ministers K. Anbazhagan, N. Suresh Rajan and Parithi Ilamvazhuthi will participate in the two-day travel and tourism extravaganza being organised by The Hindu in association with the State Tourism Department.

The mega tourism event is being held from Saturday at Raja Muthiah Hall, Egmore, coinciding with the ‘World Tourism Day’ celebrations.

Titled ‘Discover India – Enchanting Tourism,’ the event is sponsored by the State Tourism Department and it will bring together several State Tourism Boards that would showcase their cultural diversity and areas of interest. An array of colourfully decked up stalls and a centre stage that will highlight a variety of programmes representing different states will be featured at the tourism meet.

Apart from the host State’s Department of Tourism, the Goa Tourism Development Corporation, Karnataka Tourism, Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal Tourism Development Corporations, the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation, the Andaman and Nicobar Tourism Department, and Puducherry Tourism, the expo will feature Indien Hermitage, a resort hotel, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation, the Club Mahindra, and Arunai Anantha.

State Finance Minister K. Anbazhagan will inaugurate the event. Tourism Minister N. Suresh Rajan, Information Minister Parithi Ilamvazhuthi and N. Ram, Editor-in-Chief, The Hindu, will participate.

On Saturday evening, a classical dance programme, a folk dance performance by Madurai Muthu and a skit by Tourist Friendly Auto drivers will be featured.

On Sunday, N. Murali, Managing Director, The Hindu, will present the Tourism awards. Mr. Suresh Rajan, will deliver the valedictory address.
