CHENNAI: To cash in on the festival mood, Co-optex is planning to woo its customers in Andaman and Nicobar islands as well as in Northern India by conducting deepavali exhibition cum sale from September 27 to October 31. To begin with, Co-optex is conducting deepavali sale in Port Blair titled ‘Tamil Nadu Handloom Exhibition 2008’. The festival will be inaugurated by Handlooms Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran in the presence of Port Blair Development Commissioner Tapan Mandal. “This is the second time we are entering Andaman and Nicobar islands. In our maiden attempt, we conducted the sale for over three months and cleared goods worth Rs 20 lakh. This time, we are planning to hold the sale for 35 days and sell saris, shirts and home furnishings worth Rs 30 lakh. If we prolong the sale beyond certain point of time, it becomes counter-productive,” M.P. Nirmala, Co-optex Special Officer and Managing Director told The Hindu on Thursday. Visitors to the fair will have the option to choose different varieties of cotton saris weaved at Coimbatore, Salem, Jayamkondan, Arupukottai and Paramakudi. Besides, they can lay their hands on silk saris, readymade shirts, pyjama, kurta, bed sheets, towels and home furnishings. Co-optex will begin its visit to the northern parts of the country by commencing its deepavali festival sale in New Delhi. Member of Parliament Kanimozhi has agreed to inaugurate the 10-day fair on October 2.
