VISAKHAPATNAM: As the rescue and relief operations continue in the flood-hit Orissa, the Eastern Naval Command relief teams are presently deployed at Korua village of Kendrapara district, 30 km from Paradip.

Altogether, seven teams are undertaking relief operations from Gadarpara, and up to a radius of 12 km from Korua. The relief and rehabilitation efforts have gathered momentum following closure of the sluice gates of the Hirakud dam as a result of which the water levels have started to recede in some of the affected areas. Even as the water levels continue to be over five feet deep in most places, the naval teams are continuing with the relief operations. They have also been involved in enabling the Additional Relief Commissioner, the Chief Secretary and other dignitaries carry out a first hand survey of the affected areas.

Distribution of food material amounting to 21 quintals has been completed till date, along with restoration of power supply in some of the affected areas.
