Prisoner escapes, recaptured within three hours

KARUR: An under-trial prisoner lodged at the Sub-Jail here escaped in the guise of answering nature’s call but the police nabbed him again within three hours of his escape on Thursday.
Police had arrested Annadurai (30) of Vengamedu here in connection with an assault case and had lodged him at the Sub-Jail here pending trial. Annadurai was carrying food for the inmates from the kitchen located outside the prison annexure off the Jawahar Bazar on Thursday around noon when he told his escort police constable Rajan Babu that he wanted to answer nature’s call. When allowed, he suddenly ran away, scaled the compound wall and made good his escape within a trice.
Police then went to his house in the Vengamedu area and informed his family members. After about three hours, Annadurai’s family members called up the police and informed them.They picked him up. Sources said that Annadurai’s anxiety to see his kids led him to try and escape. Superintendent of Prisons, Tiruchi, Murugesan, visited the Sub-Jail later and told the media that the height of the compound would be raised further and the kitchen would be brought inside.
